Scotland's capital
is one of the most rewarding cities in the world. Not only
is Edinburgh one of the most historic cities of Europe; it
is also one of the most attractive, with architectural
glories, such as the new Town and Holyrood House, vying with
treasures of the national heritage, such as the vast art
collections of the Scottish National Gallery and other great
museums of the city.
Edinburgh, however, is much more than even this. Its
Festival is world-famous. In addition, there is no city
sprawl. Within a few minutes' walk of the city centre can be
found the small village communities, oases of quiet calm
that have existed in Edinburgh for many centuries. |
